The Origin

All the best stories turn pain into power, and that's exactly where the origins of Movement is Medicine™ began.

Movement is Medicine™'s inception stems from my profound health journey, making it all the more remarkable. People often ask me, "What is the one thing that aided your recovery?" and I tell them that it wasn't just one thing, but it was Movement is Medicine™ that saved me.

I worked in the music industry for many years. I had a lucrative career, working for some of the top companies in the world and creating a network of creatives, artists, producers, DJs and musicians. However, my health struggles cast a shadow over everything I was accomplishing. After years of supposedly random and severe health problems, misdiagnosis, failed procedures and operations going wrong, I had accumulated a lot of medical trauma, which was the ultimate reason for my health deteriorating, but something I didn’t understand yet, nor was it ever suggested as the cause of these ongoing health problems. In 2018 my body had had enough, and it began to shut down with endless symptoms; I felt like I was going to die. I was seriously ill, and the NHS couldn’t help me. I found myself in the bracket of a mystery illness.

Desperate for a solution, I raised funds through Go Fund Me and sought treatment at an integrative hospital in Mexico. After further testing, they discovered issues with my immune system and endocrine system, and infections in my lungs and joints, but no clear reason as to why this was happening, as no one had diagnosed trauma as the cause.

Despite the intense and experimental therapies I received there, my condition worsened, leaving me unable to walk at points, and I started experiencing seizures. Determined to recover my health, I extended my stay in Mexico for a further five months to explore alternative indigenous healing modalities.

My studies gradually revealed the fascinating reasons as to why the nervous system holds the key to health in relation to the work of people such as Dr Peter Levine, Bessel van der Kolk, Stephen Porges, Deb Dana, Perry Nickleston and others in the field of trauma, stress and the mind-body connection. From this, I pieced together my own body of work rooted in these discoveries. I combined the science with my understanding of indigenous teachings, the use of dance and music within tribal communities around the world and my background working in rave culture for 10 years to create something simple, modern and accessible for people to use in their own homes.

It all started with the 30-day Movement is Medicine™ challenge on Instagram. I curated a playlist with one song per day, all based around music that makes you want to move and encouraged people to participate by dancing and tagging me to share their experiences. As the movement gained traction, the overwhelmingly positive feedback inspired another idea.

Combining everything I had acquired on my own journey, I crafted the Method that stands as the heart and foundation of Movement is Medicine™ today. It has been taught to thousands globally as a stress release method, backed by a neuroscientist, with incredible results for people’s mental and physical health. We continue to grow rapidly as more people find this work, and I couldn’t be prouder.

Thank you for participating in this journey and joining the Movement.
